MANAGED CARE & MEDICAL PROJECTS DIRECTOR

DALTON M. BENSON, M.D., Associate

(email: DBenson@frrconsult.com)

Dr. Dalton M. Benson is a physician, manager and businessman, board certified in Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine.    Dr. Benson has been associated with Fogleman, Rich & Rose since 1995.   Dr. Benson is currently the Associate Medical Director of Clinic Management of JSA Medical Group, Inc., a Tampa Bay area Medicare provider with 10 clinics.    He also is the President and CEO of Managed Care Programs of Fl, Inc., a full service consultancy organization specializing in managed care model development for the elderly population.   Dr. Benson is on the editorial board of Managed Care Medicine, the official publication of the National Association of Managed Care Physicians.

Following his residency in Internal Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin at Milwaukee, he was offered an Assistant Professorship at the New York Medical College at Valhalla, NY, where he subsequently developed the first skilled nursing unit program on the East Coast specially designed to care for the victims of Alzheimer’s disease.

He was subsequently offered the job of Chief of Medicine and the Associate Chief of Staff at the F.D.R. V.A. Hospital at Montrose, New York.   As the physician manager, Dr. Benson managed 21 physicians, 1200 beds and 65,000 outpatient visits per year.    It was there that he developed the ideas for sub-acute transitional care as a “step-down function” for those elderly patients on the acute units in order to decrease hospital lengths of stay.   He also developed several other model units of care which are still in operation today.

In 1991, Dr. Benson was recruited by Humana Health Care Plans of Tampa (FL).    During his tenure with Humana, he successfully established uniform standards of care for Humana’s Medicare population.

Dr. Benson then took on the task of rehabilitating two managed care medical clinics in Pasco County (FL).   In August of 1994, after a successful, two year rebuilding period, he sold the clinics (with over 3,000 patients) in order to pursue his growing consultant programs.

Additionally, Dr. Benson started a preventative health care clinic for seniors without adequate coverage in conjunction with CARES, a senior citizen service organization.    Dr. Benson continues to serve as the clinic’s Medical Director.
